A child with ADHD might produce excess theta (daydreaming waves) in their frontal lobe when they should be producing beta (focus waves). That’s why they can’t pay attention even when they genuinely want to. Someone with anxiety might show overactive beta in areas responsible for threat detection, keeping the alarm system running around the clock even when there’s nothing to worry about. Depression often involves an imbalance between the left and right frontal lobes, with the motivation and positive emotion side running too slowly.

When your brain produces the target patterns we’re training for, the image stays bright and the audio stays clear. You don’t need to concentrate harder or think special thoughts.
